Background

"Please...end it." ~ Raunfalt

Raunfalt was an ancient giant king who reigned over a kingdom in the sky. Fearing that his legend would fall to the sands of time, he longed to have an eternal kingdom. One day, a tiefling came before Raunfalt offering him the answer to his dreams and agreed. This man turned out to be the demigod Stillhavity.

Stillhavity fulfilled his side of the bargain, but it came at a terrible price. In exchange for enduring through eternity, the deal drove Raunfault to collect tribute to fuel that which powered the agreement, an Eye of Stillhavity turned into a furnace of demonfire.

Though Raunfalt long ago came to realize the folly of the deal with Stillhavity, it was too late. His mind imprisoned in an immortal body beyond his control, the ancient king was helpless to stop from committing atrocity after atrocity in pursuit of ever more tribute. According to Stillhavity, Raunfalt killed every living creature on the continent of Alivast before the most recent colonization.

With his body nothing but a vessel to collect tribute, injuries suffered to his form were quickly regenerated from the altar in his tribute hoard, no matter the distance. Even mighty strikes that fully destroyed a part of his physical body were mere setbacks, new replacement parts formed directly from the red energy that fueled him.

Eventually, Raunfalt came across the new settlement of Wolves Den and began to collect tribute from all the nearby settlements. Word was sent back to Alivast and The Unexpectables were dispatched to deal with the threat, unaware of the scope of it. Following the trail left by Raunfalt, the Unexpectables learned more of the ancient king and eventually gathered enough information and resources to mount an assault. When The Unexpectables finally confronted Raunfalt in his tribute chamber, it was Task, with some spiritual guidance, who first discovered that attacking the altar was the only means possible to defeat the ancient king. Any damage that the alter suffered was also reflected as blue spectral marks on Raunfalt's body . After many blows, it was Task who landed the final blow by snuffing out the sinister flame within the altar and allowing Raunfalt to break free of Stillhavity's deal that bound him in eternal servitude.

With the thousands of years of entrophy rushing upon his body, Raunfalt thanked The Unexpectables before finally dying as his kingdom crumbled around him. As The Unexpectables left, Raunfalt's spirit and the spirits of those he held captive were seen passing on to their next destination, the captive spirits towards the sky and Raunfalt into the ruins of his kingdom...finally at rest.

Or so we thought.

It was later revealed that Raunfault's spirit was trapped in his sword upon his death, both eventually coming into the hands of Edward Enrobso. Edward had the damaged blade restored and  offered it to Borky  to assist in the task of convincing the outlying orc tribes to ally themselves with Alavast.
